Bluewater Health has earned recognition and awards from several local, provincial and national bodies
.
 
Accreditation Canada
Bluewater Health is proud to be Accredited with Exemplary Standing for 2015 to 2019. We achieved a score of 99.3%, the highest in our history - meeting and exceeding 2,171 national quality standards, and meeting all of our 29 Required Organizational Practices.
 
Pharmacy
In 2014, we earned the Bill Wilson Patient Safety Award from the Canadian Society of Hospital Pharmacists, recognizing our exemplary patient safety initiative around subcutaneous insulin orders for our hospital inpatients.
 
Environmental Stewardship
In 2012 we became the first acute care hospital in Ontario - and one of the few in Canada - to achieve LEED (Leadership in Environmental Energy and Design) certification for its new facility. LEED is the preeminent program for the design, construction and operation of high performance green buildings, established by the US Green Building Council and verified by the Green Building Certification Institute.
 
Accessibility
In 2013 we were named as a recipient of an Ontario Accessibility Award from Excellence Canada for exceeding the requirements of the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA). This awards program is under the patronage of the Lieutenant Governor of Ontario and recognizes our efforts to create a healthcare environment that is barrier free for persons with special needs.
 
Quality Healthcare Workplace
In 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014, we earned a Quality Healthcare Workplace Award from the Ontario Hospital Association and HealthForce Ontario. This honour recognizes healthcare organizations which create safe and engaged workplaces - ultimately leading to better patient care.
 
Best Practice Spotlight
We became one of Ontario’s Best Practice Spotlight Organizations in 2015. During the three-year candidacy period with the Registered Nurses Association of Ontario, Bluewater Health implemented six Best Practice Guidelines (BPG) and showcased successes locally, regionally and provincially. We continue to select new BPGs for implementation.
 
Laboratory
Our Laboratory earned the 2012 Ontario Society of Medical Technologists (OSMT) National Medical Laboratory Week Recognition Award. The award recognized the caliber of the week’s activities to increase awareness of the medical laboratory profession. Additionally, the Laboratory completed its Ontario Laboratory Accreditation (OLA) Self- Assessment Review in 2012.
 
Diagnostic Imaging
We achieved the Canadian Association Radiologist Mammography Accreditation Program (CARMAP) for 2015-2018. The CAR Mammography Accreditation Program is a voluntary program for accreditation of mammography facilities to ensure quality assurance practices, providing high quality images with the lowest possible radiation dose.
 
Communications
In 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2015, Bluewater Health earned Aster Awards. Each year, these international awards honour excellence in communication strategy and implementation. Awards to Bluewater Health included corporate special events planning, photography, the employee newsletter, social media and strategic communication plans.
 
In 2012 the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC) honoured Bluewater Health for the strategic communication plan which supported the Official Grand Opening of its new facilities.
 
In 2014, the Communication team earned the Health Care Public Relations Association’s Hygeia Award which recognized its strategic communication plan which supported the organization’s success in implementing an influenza protection policy which raised immunization rates.
 
GEM Nurses
In 2011 Bluewater Health’s Geriatric Emergency Management (GEM) Nurses were honored to receive the Dorothea Rivett Award from the Alzheimer Society of Sarnia-Lambton Board of Directors. The award recognizes outstanding voluntary contribution to the growth of the community in its understanding of the impact of Alzheimer’s disease.
 
Maternal Infant Child Program
The Provincial Council for Maternal and Child Health recognized Bluewater Health’s Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome (NAS) Task Force for reducing risk factors for infants, and striving to set mothers and babies with NAS up for success. These NAS initiatives also earned the team a 2013 Bridging Excellence Award.
 
Volunteerism
Volunteers are a vital component of the hospital team and play an integral role in care and service at Bluewater Health. Each year, outstanding Bluewater Health volunteers are nominated to receive Ontario Volunteer Service Awards.
 
Outstanding Business Achievement
In 2011, Bluewater Health was honoured with the Environmental Award from the Sarnia-Lambton Chamber of Commerce. The award recognizes an organization or business whose actions have made a significant contribution to the environmental health of their place of business and or the greater community. Bluewater Health was recognized for enabling ‘greener’ hospital practices by implementing leading-edge technologies, green thinking and innovation, including the creation of healing gardens, use of natural light, an ongoing energy conservation awareness program, environmentally responsible purchasing, among others.
