Sarnia, ON - July 5, 2010: Phase 1 of the patient moves to the new addition at Bluewater Health in Sarnia was carried out on Saturday, July 3rd with great success. The move saw 60 patients in Maternal/Infant/Child, Rehabilitation and Cognitively Complex Continuing Care moved within the Norman Site to their new homes in the new addition.

In celebration of this momentous occasion for Bluewater Health and the Sarnia-Lambton Community, staff in the Meternal/Infant/Child (MIC) unit put together beautiful gift baskets for the last baby born in the old Russell Building location and the first baby born in the new Norman Building. The baskets themselves were donated by Sunripe, and included $100 back account from CIBC; a starter coin collection, bath set and picture frame from the Bluewater Health Children's Auxiliary; a baby blanket from Sew Much More embroidered with "Last baby born at Bluewater Health Russell Site 2010" and "First baby born at Bluewater Health Norman Site 2010"; and many other goodies donated personally by MIC staff members.

On Saturday, July 3, 2010 at 8:00 a.m. the first patient was moved within Bluewater Health's Norman Site from the existing MIC in the Russell Building to the new MIC in the new addiion.  Worship Centre Dedication

Sarnia, ON - June 24, 2010: The new Worship Centre at Bluewater Health’s Norman Site was dedicated in a ceremony on June 23. Located close to the main entrance and adjacent to the healing garden, this sacred space is now available to patients, families, staff, volunteers and visitors for quiet prayer, meditation and worship gatherings. History Book Release

 

Sarnia, ON - June 24, 2010: Former local history teacher, Vic Dudek volunteered time over five years to author Bluewater Health’s new commemorative history book. Dudek interviewed current and former staff members and researched old records, archives, publications and newspaper articles to discover the rich history of Bluewater Health and its founding corporations. His efforts have culminated with the release of a book highlighting over 100 years of Bluewater Health’s history.  Accessibility Committee Tour 

  

Sarnia, ON - June 21, 2010: On Wednesday, June 16, the City of Sarnia Accessibility Committee was invited to tour Bluewater Health’s new hospital in Sarnia. The tour provided an opportunity for members of the Bluewater Health Accessibility Committee to meet members from the City of Sarnia Committee, and showcase the many features that make the new hospital an accessible public facility. During the tour, Committee participants provided feedback on any identified barriers or questions about customer service for persons with disabilities. Both Committees work within their respective organizations to achieve compliance with regulations for the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act.

  Mock Patient Move


Sarnia, ON – June 3, 2010: In one month, Bluewater Health will begin to occupy its new facilities. In phase 1 moves on July 3, patients at the Norman Site will be moved to their new rooms. Phase 2, July 29, will see most patients moved from the Mitton Site to the Norman Site.
 
Today, Bluewater Health, with the professionals of Health Care Relocations (HCR), tested move procedures in what is called a ‘mock move.’
 
In the attached picture, Joe Hartnett of HCR pushes Wendy Wilson, Project Coordinator, Facilities Planning & Development (on stretcher) out the doors of the Mitton Site Emergency Department where ambulances will await patients during Phase 2 moves.
 
Each move day is expected to last four to five hours, with patients having breakfast in their current location and lunch in their new location.
 
According to Wilson, today’s rehearsal went exactly as planned.
