Out-patient diabetes counseling and education, provided by Registered Nurses and Registered Dietitians, all are Certified Diabetes Educators.
Diabetes Education
This service provides education for those with diabetes and their families. It guides patients in developing diabetes management skills.
Patients can be referred for:
- Newly diagnosed diabetes
- Improved control of established diabetes
- Outpatient insulin starts, pens and pumps
- Gestational diabetes (priority booking)
Pediatric Diabetes:
- Newly diagnosed children (priority booking)
- Insulin pump program for children
- Pediatric Endocrinologist Clinic
- Pediatric programs for various age groups
Bi Monthly Diabetes Information Group Program:
- All new referrals both newly diagnosed and established diabetes
Monthly group sessions:
- Adult Pre-diabetes/Impaired Glucose Tolerance
- Carbohydrate counting
- Insulin starts
Clinical Nutrition Education
This service provides education and counseling regarding the appropriate diet for specific medical conditions, such as:
- Lipids: cholesterol/triglycerides (monthly group sessions)
- Diabetes prevention and weight loss (monthly group sessions)
Individual appointments for other nutritional needs/issues such as:
- Gastrointestinal Disorders/Celiac
- Allergies
- Kidney Disease
- Eating Disorders
Outreach services:
- Charlotte Eleanor Englehart Hospital (CEEH) of Bluewater Health
- Walpole Island Health Centre
Doctor’s referral required.
Hours of operation: 8:00 am – 4:00 pm, Monday – Friday (hours may vary depending on need)
