Palliative Care

The Palliative Care Unit at Bluewater Health serves the total care of patients whose disease is not responsive to curative treatment.

Control of pain, other symptoms, and of psychological social and spiritual problems is addressed. The goal of palliative care is the best possible quality of life for patients and their families.

Music Therapy In Palliative Care

Music therapy can help lessen feelings of isolation and loneliness by providing opportunities for social interaction and the sharing of personal experiences with others.

The use of music can provide spiritual comfort and reassurance, and support the individual’s faith. Music therapy can also be used to help family members throughout the grieving process by providing comfort, continuity and opportunities to express feelings of loss.

Music has been found to have a significant impact on reducing the perception of physical pain. It also assists the individual in maintaining a sense of independence and control of his or her life by providing opportunities for choice and decision-making.

Our certified Music Therapist offers bedside and group sessions. Referrals can be made through the Recreation Therapy Department, at (519) 464-4400, Ext. 8308.

The Music Therapy Program is made available by the Dr. Linda Bowring Endowment Fund. Dr. Linda Bowring dedicated her life to the service of persons with terminal illness and their families. She was a true healer who loved music and believed in its healing qualities.
