The Personal Health Information Protection Act (PHIPA)

The Personal Health Information Protection Act, 2004 (PHIPA), sets out the rules that persons or organizations (defined as “health care information custodians” or “health care providers”) must follow when collecting, using, disclosing, retaining and disposing of personal health information.

The Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner (IPC) oversees compliance of the Act.
