Bluewater Health Annual General Meeting Highlights

Thursday, June 25, 2020 - 8:48am

SARNIA & PETROLIA – June 25, 2020 – At yesterday’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) President and CEO Mike Lapaine reported on a number of the 2019-2020 fiscal year’s achievements: reduction on hospital transition times through the No One Waits (NOW) initiative; progress on becoming an Ontario Health Team (OHT); improvements in employee engagement; and the local response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Our work on improving hospital flow in the early part of the year then partnering with our community colleagues through our innovation work around becoming an OHT really ended up paving the way for a successful approach to how we responded to the pandemic,” noted Lapaine. “The healthcare community that we were at the start of our last year and where we have evolved to is drastically different. Tomorrow is a whole new opportunity and this past year has opened new healthcare innovations for us, our staff, our community and our patients.”

Due to restrictions on meeting size during the COVID-19 pandemic, the Annual General Meeting was closed to the public.

Board Chair Paul Wiersma praised the organization for its effective response to the global pandemic. “I saw the hospital respond as it has to other challenges: with evidence, process, leadership and kindness. Staff and physicians stepped up to face a foe the likes of which we had never seen before.”

Reports were also provided by Chief of Staff Dr. Michel Haddad, Board Treasurer Margaret Dragan, foundations and auxiliaries. The professional accounting firm BDO Canada LLP was appointed as auditors for 2020-2021.
