From hospitals to long-term care homes and from clinics to a patient’s home, Ontario’s doctors make a difference in the lives of their patients every day by providing high-quality care.
Tuesday, May 1, has been designated by the Ontario government as Doctors’ Day. The date was selected to mark the birthday of Dr. Emily Stowe, Canada’s first female physician. Bluewater Health is encouraging the community to say thank you to the doctors who care for patients in Sarnia-Lambton each and every day.
“As a physician, I know that we care for patients at the most vulnerable times of their lives,” says Dr. Mike Haddad, Chief of Professional Staff. “We put our patients first at the expense of our families at times. We work tirelessly with other healthcare professionals to adhere to our mission to heal, alleviate suffering and address the fears and anxiety of our patients and families to the best of our abilities. On behalf of Bluewater Health, I would like to thank our local physicians for their dedication to caring for patients both in the community and at the hospital.”
Bluewater Health also supports the Ontario Medical Association’s campaign, which encourages Ontarians to recognize doctors via social media: tweeting using the hashtag #LoveMyMD, celebrating a defining moment from their relationship with their own doctor by tweeting using the hashtag #DefiningMoment or commenting on the Doctors’ Day Facebook posts.
Bluewater Health recognizes local physicians at its annual service recognition ceremony and Bridging Excellence Awards in April, as well as at the annual Physician Appreciation Day in the fall. Patients and families will also have an opportunity to nominate their physician for a Patients’ Choice Award in late summer.
“Our recruiting efforts continue to attract more high-caliber physicians and specialists to Sarnia,” adds Dr. Haddad. “Bluewater Health is a great place to learn and practice and Sarnia-Lambton is a fantastic community.”
