SARNIA & PETROLIA – September 3, 2021 – Bluewater Health is replacing its recently-announced ‘vaccinate or test’ policy with a stricter approach that goes beyond the current Ontario government directive. The hospital has notified staff and professional staff (physicians, midwives, etc.) that they have until October 31, 2021 to be fully vaccinated to work at Bluewater Health.
The new policy aligns with many hospitals across the province who require staff and professional staff be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 or risk termination. Vaccine mandate policies are in line with recommendations from the Ontario Medical Association, Registered Nurses’ Association of Ontario and the American Academy of Pediatrics.
“We believe vaccination against COVID-19 is in the best interests of individuals and society as a whole; the vast majority of our Bluewater Health team are fully vaccinated so we are talking about very small numbers,” said Mike Lapaine, President & CEO. “That said, COVID is a very tricky virus and we know the Delta variant spreads more easily. Our patients and families deserve the best protection we can offer and achieving that requires full vaccination among our care team.”
Volunteers, now being welcomed back into limited roles, students and contractors will also be required to show proof of full vaccination before entering the hospitals.
