SARNIA & PETROLIA – September 27, 2018 – Bluewater Health has been honoured with two of the highest awards in the communications field in Canada. The International Association of Business Communicators (IABC) recognizes excellence in organizational communications at the international, national and chapter levels. Silver Leaf Awards are IABC Canada’s national recognition program.
The hospital’s Communications & Public Affairs department earned Silver Leaf Awards for two patient story videos – an Award of Excellence for and an Award of Merit for . Laura’s Story tells the story of the extraordinary care a family received at Bluewater Health at a time of simultaneous joy and sadness – Laura was both expecting her first child, and preparing for the death of her mother, who was eager to meet her first grandchild. In Kaleo’s Story the care received at Bluewater Health helped 32-year-old Kaleo not only recover from a debilitating stroke, but make changes and reclaim his life. Combined, the two stories have been viewed by more than 100,000 people through Facebook.
“We are grateful to these families, who trusted us not only with their care in their time of need, but with the honour of sharing their story,” says Julia Oosterman, Chief, Communications & Public Affairs. “For Bluewater Health staff, physicians and volunteers, these projects served as a reminder of the great work they participate in each day. For the local community, they provide moving examples of the lengths the people at Bluewater Health will go to provide exemplary care.”
There were more than 125 entries this year in over 40 award categories. Twenty-one received the Award of Excellence, and 31 earned the Award of Merit.
“This is the highest national honour for excellence in the field of business communications,” says IABC London Chapter President Andrew Kaszowski. “This recognition is a testament to the impact organizations and professionals have on business performance through strategic marketing and public relations.”
Both videos were produced with the assistance of London-based Hungry Boy Productions and local photographer Troy Shantz (The Sarnia Journal) provided photos for Laura’s Story.
