SARNIA & PETROLIA – October 17, 2018 – Bluewater Health’s medical laboratory testing facilities have earned the highest level of acknowledgment from the Institute for Quality Management in Healthcare (IQMH), a subsidiary of the Ontario Medical Association. The IQMH renewed the laboratory’s accreditation through to October 2022, indicating patients can continue to be confident in the care provided by the facilities. Accreditation indicates formal recognition that the facility is competent to carry out specific tasks in a reliable, credible and accurate manner. The accreditation process is mandatory for all medical laboratories licensed by the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care.
During the accreditation process, assessors verify the facility’s policies and procedures conform to best practices and acknowledged standards. Accreditation requires compliance with Canadian and provincial statutes and regulations, Health Canada guidelines and consensus standards and guidelines.
“Accreditation to ISO 15189 by the IQMH’s Centre for Accreditation is a standard recognized around the world,” says Deb Croteau, Director, Diagnostic Services. “It signals the facility’s experience, technical competence and reliability, and a commitment to continuous improvement. Each time we’re assessed, we’re held to an ever-higher standard.”
