Bluewater Health Launches Strategic Plan to 2026

SARNIA & PETROLIA – December 1, 2021 – Bluewater Health kicked off its new strategic plan, called “Kaleidoscope of Care™, to guide its direction and initiatives for the next five years. The organization’s Mission and Vision have been replaced by a Purpose Statement – Health through partnership   Caring with kindness. Its five strategic priorities – Quality Care, Inspired People, Exceptional Relationships, Outstanding Performance and Equitable Experience – are supported by five values: Excellence; Compassion; Teamwork; Innovation; and Inclusivity.

Bluewater Health spent months talking to a variety of stakeholders – medical and program leaders, staff, volunteers, service providers and the public – about innovative ways to make the patient’s care experience even better. The concerns and opportunities people saw for the future aligned with the same themes in the previous strategic plan, along with equity.

“As evidenced by the COVID-19 pandemic, healthcare is constantly changing and hospitals need to be nimble to respond to the care needs of its community,” says Mike Lapaine, President and CEO. “A kaleidoscope also shows a different view, each time it’s shifted. By welcoming perspectives of patients, families, care providers and community partners, we get new insights, ideas and partnerships to achieve innovative results. I want to thank the 1,500 people who participated in surveys and interviews to give vital input.”

The hospital’s approach to Quality Care is not limited to its walls, but rather engages its Ontario Health Team partners in the patient and caregiver experience throughout the community. A Culture of Kindness will continue to guide the hospital’s investment in Inspired People so staff and Professional Staff can be resilient in providing care to the community. The Exceptional Relationships with mental health and addictions partners and primary care providers will form the basis for further teamwork to build capacity and develop a healthier community. An increased focus on digital connectivity with partners will support continued Outstanding Performance and seamless care transitions. Further emphasis on equity, diversity and inclusion will result in a more Equitable Experience for patients, families and the hospital team.

“This Strategic Plan lays the foundation for a supportive environment for patients as well as Bluewater Health’s staff, Professional Staff and volunteers,” says Brian Knott, Chair, Bluewater Health Board of Directors. “The new Purpose Statement places higher emphasis on involving patients and families more. The strategic priorities and values will guide the hospital’s commitment to providing exceptional care for the Sarnia-Lambton community.”

Bluewater Health’s Strategic Plan 2021-2026 and a video describing the plan are available at bluewaterhealth.ca/strategic-plan-2021-2026. The hospital’s performance against its goals will be posted on the website on a quarterly basis.
