Available to patients, families, staff, and the public

SARNIA & PETROLIA – May 31, 2022 – In recognition of World No Tobacco Day, Bluewater Health and Rapids Family Health Team are pleased to now offer the Smoking Treatment for Ontario Patients (STOP) Program. The program, funded in partnership with The Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH), is now available to patients, families, staff and the public at Bluewater Health and at Rapids Family Health Team.

The STOP Program is a province-wide initiative funded by the Ontario Ministry of Health, providing smoking cessation treatment and counselling support to individuals who are aiming to reduce or quit their tobacco use. Through local community healthcare partners like Bluewater Health and Rapids Family Health Team, these supports are available free of charge.

“Bluewater Health is excited to partner with CAMH in offering the STOP program to our patients, families, staff and the public,” says Paula Reaume-Zimmer, VP Integrated Services. “This program is readily accessible to all local residents who are seeking support in their journey to quit smoking.”

Rapids Family Health Team has been a partner with CAMH for over 12 years. Registered Nurse Educator Candace Arsenault says “over that time we have had many clients experience the wonderful feeling of success that comes with finally being able to stop smoking. We are excited that the program continues to be offered by Rapids FHT and now has expanded to include Bluewater Health. The more people we can help, the better.”

The program at both Bluewater Health and Rapids Family Health Team offers 26 weeks of free nicotine replacement, including options such as patches, gum, inhalers, and lozenges, in addition to counselling.

Accessing the program is easy – if you’re ready to quit smoking, simply call Bluewater Health at (519)-464-4400 ext. 5370, or Rapids Family Health Team at (519) 339-8949 to ask about smoking cessation and book your appointment.
