Each Inpatient to Designate One Consistent Care Partner

SARNIA & PETROLIA – March 2, 2021 – Based on the reduction in COVID-19 rates in our hospital and community, Bluewater Health will return to scheduled visits from limited designated care partners to the hospital. Care partners are essential to the physical, emotional and spiritual well-being of our patients.

In a phased approach to maintain the safety and well-being of patients, families and healthcare workers, hospital staff will work with each inpatient to designate a care partner. All care partners will be contacted by the hospital to arrange visits, and will undergo a health assessment and screening at the hospital entrance. They must wear a mask while on-site and follow guidance on personal protective equipment, physical distancing, hand hygiene and limited movement within the hospital. Care partners would be those who are NOT self-isolating at the direction of public health and have not had a positive test for COVID-19 within the last two weeks. Outpatients in the Emergency Department and Ambulatory Care are permitted to have one support person in limited circumstances.

“We continue to balance the benefits loved ones bring to each patient’s care journey with the needs of our hospital and community,” says Shannon Landry, Chief Nursing Executive.

As there are limits to the number of care partners permitted for each patient, loved ones are invited to connect with inpatients through virtual options, such as Skype, FaceTime or telephone calls, or to request a virtual visit through the hospital’s website at https://www.bluewaterhealth.ca/form/virtual-visit-request-form. Patients not able to use their own devices to communicate through audio or video calls will receive assistance with hospital devices and technology platforms.
