Bluewater Health is pleased to announce that 10 new medical specialists have joined the Professional Staff team over the last seven months: Dr. William Schultz, anaesthetist, Dr. Anil Shastry, radiologist, Dr. Ketan Ghate, medical oncologist, Dr. Evan Lilly, family physician working in oncology and palliative care, Dr. Cheryl Willsie, psychiatrist, Dr. Kehinde Aladetoyinbo, psychiatrist, Dr. Jonathan Cosby, emergency physician, Dr. Shamshaad Ally, emergency physician, Dr. Alaa Alhendi, internist, and Dr. Frank Spano, dermatologist.
Dr. William Schultz completed his medical degree and his Anaesthesiology Residency at Western University. “I chose Bluewater Health because I was so impressed with how supportive and caring the group was,” he says. “From the time I met with them, they were friendly and caring. They have continued to be there for me as I make the transition into consultant practice, and I am lucky to have such colleagues surrounding me.”
Dr. Anil Shastry completed his medical degree at the University of Toronto and his Residency training in both Diagnostic Radiology and Nuclear Medicine at the University of Western Ontario. He worked at London X-Ray Associates prior to joining Bluewater Health. “I chose to work at Bluewater Health because of the collegial environment, opportunity to participate in a large range of imaging services, and high standard of care,” says Dr. Shastry.
Dr. Evan Lilly completed his medical degree at the University of Toronto and his Family Medicine Residency at Western University. He will be working in oncology and palliative care. "During my residency training, in both Sarnia and Petrolia, I quickly developed an awareness of the collegiality of the team, with all team members working to provide the best care possible for patients at all stages of life,” says Dr. Lilly. “I was also honoured to join an exceptional Palliative Medicine team that provides compassionate and patient-centred care for patients living with serious illness. Although medicine brought me to Sarnia, the support of the hospital and community made me want to stay."
Dr. Ketan Ghate completed his medical degree at Ross University in the Dominica, West Indies, his Internal Medicine Residency at Albany Medical College in Albany, New York, and his Medical Oncology residency at Queen’s University. Dr. Ghate comments that “Bluewater Health is an excellent hospital that provides great care for the people of this community. There is a real family atmosphere here which translates into great patient care.”
Dr. Cheryl Willsie completed her medical degree at McMaster University and her Psychiatry training at Western University. Dr. Willsie has practiced psychiatry in Wellington, New Zealand and also at the Alexandra Marine and General Hospital in Goderich. “It has been wonderful to move to Lambton County where I can be close to my family, as well as the coast of beautiful Lake Huron. I have found everyone at Bluewater Health to be extremely friendly and welcoming,” says Dr. Willsie. “This is an exciting time to be joining the team at Bluewater Health, especially with the establishment of new programs like Residential Withdrawal Management.”
Dr. Kehinde Aladetoyinbo completed his medical training at the University of Ilorin, in Kwara State, Nigeria, and his psychiatry training at Dublin University Psychiatry Rotational training program in Ireland. For the past nine years he has been practicing psychiatry at Saint John Regional Hospital in New Brunswick. “I am very passionate about providing high quality, patient-centred evidence-based care in collaboration with other healthcare professionals. Community engagement is vital in relation to this priority,” says Dr. Aladetoyinbo.
Dr. Jonathan Cosby completed his medical degree and Family Medicine residency at Western University. He completed his enhanced skills in Emergency Medicine at the University of Manitoba. "I chose to work at Bluewater Health as I enjoyed my time as a resident working and learning here, finding the staff a pleasure to work with as well as providing excellent care to their patients,” comments Dr. Cosby. “It's a great community and I look forward to working together caring for patients for the years to come."
Dr. Shamshaad Ally completed her medical degree at the University of Witwatersrand in South Africa. Prior to joining Bluewater Health, she practiced in South Africa, the United Kingdom, and Toronto. “Sarnia as a community is ideal to raise my young kids in,” says Dr. Ally and I am thrilled to have found so many other South African families in this very special place.”
Dr. Alaa Alhendi completed his medical degree at the King Saud University in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia and his post graduate training in Internal Medicine at the King Khalid University Hospital in Riyadh, and the University of British Columbia. He has also completed a Fellowship in Nephrology. Dr. Alhendi has practiced internal medicine in Newfoundland and Parry Sound. He is interested in improving care for patients with kidney diseases and acute care medicine.
Dr. Frank Spano, originally from Sarnia, obtained his medical doctorate at the University of Western Ontario, and subsequently continued his training in family medicine. Working in both the hospital and the community health centres, he realized the need for dermatology. Choosing to resume his studies, Dr. Spano attended the University of Toronto’s Internal Medicine Program, and then continued in the field of dermatology at the University of Ottawa. Dr. Frank Spano looks forward to returning to his hometown, bringing his unique expertise to the community.
“At Bluewater Health, we are continually recruiting specialists to meet the needs of our patients and community,” says Dr. Mike Haddad, Chief of Professional Staff. “With the support of Cancer Care Ontario, we have been able to bring Dr. Ghate and Dr. Lilly to our community to expand services for cancer patients. Dr. Shastry’s skills add to our talented group of radiologists, Dr. Schultz is a welcome addition as an anaesthetist supporting surgery patients, and Dr. Alhendi adds to our complement of internists. Dermatology is a real need in our community, so I am also pleased that Dr. Spano has decided to practice here. Emergency physicians and psychiatrists are in high demand thoughout the province and we are fortunate that Drs. Cosby, Ally, Willsie and Aladetoyinbo have chosen to practice at Bluewater Health.”
