SARNIA & PETROLIA – November 5, 2021 - Sarnia/Lambton was recognized provincially last week for collaborative and cross-sectoral system-thinking in mental health and addictions care.
Integrated Vice President for Mental Health & Addictions at Bluewater Health and CMHA Lambton-Kent, CEO of Lambton Elderly Outreach, Paula Reaume-Zimmer, presented at the prestigious 11th Annual Leadership Summit of the Association of General Hospital Psychiatric Services (AGHPS). Other speakers and participants included top provincial psychiatrists, Chiefs of Psychiatry, and other leaders in mental health and addictions care.

Reaume-Zimmer presented on the unique community agency and hospital collaborative model in Sarnia-Lambton’s mental health and addictions sector, highlighting lessons learned and the patient and partner benefits of the integrated service-delivery model. Local successes include improved accountability and resource management, consistent assessment tools across all providers, as well as the removal of patient barriers and allowing for more timely access to vital mental health and addictions care. The collaborative and cross-sectoral model is also closely aligned with the work of the Sarnia-Lambton Ontario Health Team, which presents further collaboration opportunities.
“Having an integrated role present at the governance-level is also very important,” says Reaume-Zimmer. “It allows for a great opportunity to emphasize, and advocate for, local healthcare system investments.”
Reaume-Zimmer has led the local mental health and addictions portfolio in an integrated executive role for several years.
