SARNIA & PETROLIA – May 28, 2020 – Beginning Saturday, May 30, both Sarnia and Petrolia COVID-19 assessment centres will be offering drive-through testing. The move from a clinic model to a drive-through model allows a higher volume of testing and prevents close contact with those who are symptomatic.
“Our hope is that the drive-through model will accommodate more people in a safe manner,” says Laurie Zimmer, VP Operations, Bluewater Health “With the recent announcement that anyone can be swabbed, this will help to avoid crowding and accidental close contact of symptomatic people.”
The Rural Lambton Assessment Centre in Petrolia began piloting this model on Tuesday, while the Sarnia Twin Bridges Nurse Practitioner-Led Clinic begins the model on Saturday.
The Rural Lambton Assessment Centre is asking people who wish to be swabbed to call in advance of showing up at the drive-through as this allows for pre-registration. Appointments can be made Monday-Friday from 1:00pm-4:00pm and the assessment centre is also open on Saturdays from 9:00am-12:00pm. Please call (519) 882-2500 to make an appointment.
The drive-through assessment centre will operate at the Front Street entrance of the Twin Bridges Nurse Practitioner-Led Clinic from 9:00am-2:00pm. No appointment is required and COVID swabs will be performed with persons remaining in their vehicles.
- Approach the driveway from the South end of Front Street
- Only right turns will be allowed into the drive thru centre
- Bring your Ontario Health Card with you
- No Health Card?, you will not be denied testing
“With the increased demand for testing, we are hoping that the drive-through option will allow the self-referral and those who are not currently sick easier access to testing,” says Valerie Winberg, Executive Director and Clinic Lead Nurse Practitioner, Twin Bridges NP-Led Clinic. “Our team is working hard to adjust to the changes announced while ensuring safe and timely access to care.”
