Nutrition & Food Services aims to provide patients with high quality, nutritious meals during their hospital stay.
What patients eat – or don’t eat – while they’re in hospital can have a real impact. Research shows almost half of patients are clinically malnourished on admission and those who eat less than 50% of their hospital food are at risk for longer stays and/or readmission.
Three times a day, every day of the year, we provide nourishment to our patients, taking into account more than 40 different dietary considerations and individual food and beverage preferences. Patients complete a preference form on admission and are only given foods they like – there’s no nutrition in a sandwich you don’t eat. Our staff is also trained and knowledgeable about food intolerances and allergies.
We provide a 10-day menu cycle, with our food cooked in Burlodge Carts – our “ovens on wheels.”
Staff serves freshly baked muffins and cookies, freshly made salads and other offerings for approximately 300 patients three times a day in Sarnia and Petrolia.
All patient trays are assembled by Food Service staff, and delivered to patients’ rooms or dining areas.
