Kaleidoscope of Care

Strategic planning is an activity we use to set priorities, focus energy and resources, strengthen operations, and ensure we are working toward common goals. It is work that shapes and guides who we are, who we serve, what we do and why we do it, centred on the future. Effective strategic planning is about defining not only where we want to go and the actions needed to make progress, but also how we will know if we are successful.

Our most recent Strategic Plan saw significant progress from 2016 to 2021 in allowing the organization to deliver even greater patient and family-centred care. Our focus on quality and safety, aligned with a culture of kindness, has met with high patient satisfaction and employee engagement. Click here to view the 2016-2021 plan achievements.

Progress, Together

The healthcare landscape in Sarnia-Lambton, and indeed Ontario, is similar to a kaleidoscope, offering a different perspective every time it’s shifted even slightly. When we change our view, welcoming perspectives of patients, families, care providers and community partners, we get new insights, ideas and partnerships to achieve different results.

Bluewater Health spent months talking to a variety of stakeholders – medical and program leaders, staff, volunteers, service providers and the public – about innovative ways to make the care experience even better.

Community Survey Results

Two examples of the multitude of partnerships in which Bluewater Health is participating to better serve the health needs of the community are:

  1. The Sarnia-Lambton Ontario Health Team is a collaboration of 35 partners, including Bluewater Health, with a shared goal of improving the health of the residents of Sarnia-Lambton. In November 2020, the provincial government announced that our team will move forward as an Ontario Health Team.
  1. The Town of Petrolia and Charlotte Eleanor Englehart Hospital of Bluewater Health are jointly progressing on a multi-year and multi-phase master plan to redevelop the Petrolia hospital and create a community healthcare village.

Progress, with Purpose

As the region's only acute care provider, Bluewater Health’s two hospitals are focused on the overall health of the communities they serve.

Bluewater Health has a new Purpose Statement: Health through partnership, Caring with kindness. Our five themes (Quality Care, Outstanding Performance, Inspired People, Exceptional Relationships and Equitable Experience) work together to guide us forward, while our Purpose Statement reminds us of what we’re pursuing together. The Purpose Statement reflects the importance of approaching care with a systems view and embedding kindness into every interaction. Our five values are Excellence, Innovation, Compassion, Teamwork and Inclusivity.
