Patients requiring a broad range of endoscopic procedures are seen in our Endoscopy Clinic. The procedures are performed by gastroenterologists or surgeons with the assistance of a specially-trained nurse. A scope (or tube) inserted through the patient’s mouth or rectum will assist the doctor in looking at the bowel, esophagus or stomach to provide a diagnosis, or assist in treatment of a problem.
This is a 'day clinic' and patients can go home after their procedure. Sometimes a short recovery period is necessary which occurs in our Day Surgery department before discharge from the hospital.
You must have a friend or family member with you to take you home after you are discharged, as you will require sedation for the procedure.
